In this video, long-time residents of Rust reflect on the close connection between the theme park and the former fishing village.

They remember it well: in the 1970s, Europa-Park was launched as an ambitious project that would change the small community of Rust in Baden forever – and also brought with it a number of challenges.

In the short film, real Rust originals who have experienced the development of the park first hand have their say: as raft captains, construction planners or safety technicians, but also as local councillors, headmasters or laundry owners.

They share personal anecdotes and speak honestly about their experiences, hopes and concerns. It quickly becomes clear that the Mack family’s vision has impressed many – as have their down-to-earth attitude and sense of community over the course of the theme park’s 50-year history.

The film was presented to the Mack family at the community of Rust’s spring reception in March 2025 as an anniversary gift.
